Every Chocolate, Designed Around You
Chokoholic's bespoke approach grew from a belief that chocolate could be genuinely personal. Rather than choosing from a fixed catalogue, a commission could begin with an occasion - a wedding, a birthday, a seasonal celebration - or simply with an idea, a flavour combination, or a particular look. The starting point is always the person or event at the centre of it.
This approach requires both the technical skill of a chocolate maker and the creative instinct of a designer. Selecting a product type, thinking about fillings and flavours, considering how the finished piece would look and feel in someone's hands - each decision is made with care and with the finished creation in mind from the start.
No two bespoke commissions are the same. Each is handmade in small batches, finished individually, and presented in a way that suites the occasion. The variation inherent in handmade work - small differences in finish, decoration and assembly - is not a flaw. It is part of what makes each piece genuinely individual.
The Bespoke Process
From the first conversation to the finished creation - a step-by-step account of how a bespoke Chokoholic commission comes together.
01
Understanding the Idea
The process begins with a conversation. Before any chocolate is made, the starting point is always the occasion, the person, or the idea. What is the chocolate for? Who will receive it? Is there a theme, a flavour preference, a particular aesthetic? Getting this right at the outset shapes every decision that follows.
02
Choosing the Product
Once the idea is clear, the right product type can be considered. Will the commission suit handmade truffles, moulded bonbons, a filled chocolate selection, a decorated Easter egg, or something else entirely? Different occasions call for different forms, and part of the skill is matching the chocolate to its purpose.
03
Flavours and Fillings
With the product type in mind, the focus turns to taste. Fillings, ganaches, caramels and flavour combinations are considered alongside the chocolate itself - the balance between shell and centre, sweetness and depth, familiar and surprising. No flavour is chosen arbitrarily; each is selected to suit the commission.
04
Shapes, Finishes and Decoration
The visual design of the finished chocolate is thought through carefully. Mould shapes, surface finishes, hand-painted details and decorative elements all contribute to the final appearance. Whether the brief calls for something understated and elegant or bold and celebratory, the visual language is developed to suit it.
05
Made by Hand
With all decisions made, the chocolates are produced entirely by hand. Shells are tempered and moulded, fillings prepared, chocolates sealed and finished individually. Small-batch production means that each piece receives the same attention from start to finish. There are no shortcuts; the process is the same whether one box or several are being made.
06
Packaged and Presented
The finished chocolates are packaged and presented in a way that suites the occasion. Presentation is considered part of the commission from the beginning — the way the box is opened, the way the chocolates are arranged, the way the whole thing looks in someone's hands matters as much as the chocolate inside.
Occasions That Inspired a Commission
A bespoke commission at Chokoholic could be inspired by almost any occasion or idea. The examples below represent the kinds of events and purposes that historically shaped the work — this is a record of the types of commissions that have been approached, not a current offering.
Weddings and Celebrations
A wedding or milestone celebration called for something distinctive — chocolates designed around a colour palette, a theme, or simply the taste of the people at the centre of the day. Favour boxes, gift selections and decorative pieces were all possible starting points.
Personal Gifts
A bespoke commission did not need to be a large occasion. A thoughtful gift — a small selection of flavours chosen for someone specific, or a chocolate made to reflect a personal interest — could be just as carefully considered as a larger piece.
Seasonal Events
The rhythm of the year — Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day — provided a natural context for bespoke seasonal pieces. These could follow traditional forms or depart from them entirely depending on what suited the commission.
Corporate and Presentation Pieces
Presentation chocolates designed around a brand, an event or a professional occasion required a particular kind of precision — in appearance, in consistency and in how they were packaged and presented.
These categories reflect the types of occasions that historically inspired bespoke commissions at Chokoholic. They are presented as archive context only.
